Kids and teens

6 Week Homeschool Wheel & Handbuilding
Kids will learn how to pinch, coil, and slab their own clay creations, as well as explore the basics of the pottery wheel with guided instruction.
Along the way, they’ll develop fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in their artistic expression — all in a fun, supportive, and safe studio environment.
Grades K-5 & 6-8 — $195

6 Week Kids Wheel & Handbuilding
Designed for young makers, this class introduces children to both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques.
Kids will explore handbuilding and try the pottery wheel with guided support, building fine motor skills, creativity, and confidence in a fun and encouraging studio environment.
Ages 8-12 — $195

6 Week Teen Wheel
This course is designed for teens of all experience levels—whether they’re brand new to the wheel or ready to build on their foundational skills. Students will learn and refine key techniques like centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, and trimming, and glazing.
Each teen receives guidance tailored to their pace, helping them grow confidence, explore their creativity, and develop their personal style.

6 Week Beginner Handbuilding
Guided by experienced instructors, students will learn core skills such as slab building, coil construction, pinch techniques, and how to assemble forms with strong, clean joints. Along the way, you’ll explore shaping, surface design, basic attachments, and how to prepare your pieces for firing and glazing.
This course is perfect for those new to clay or anyone wanting a creative, accessible introduction to ceramics. With step-by-step instruction and plenty of hands-on practice, students will complete a variety of functional and decorative projects while gaining confidence in the handbuilding process from start to finish.

6 Week Continuing Handbuilding
Designed for students who are comfortable with basic slab, pinch, and coil techniques, this course will dive into more complex forms and construction methods, such as multi-part builds, lidded vessels, textured or altered surfaces, and refined attachments. You’ll explore ways to enhance craftsmanship, achieve cleaner lines and stronger joins, and develop greater control over shaping and design.
This course encourages students to push their ideas further—whether that means creating larger pieces, building more intricate forms, or experimenting with expressive surface treatments and glazing approaches

6 Week Beginner Wheel
The Beginner Wheel Course offers step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice in foundational pottery wheel techniques, guided by experienced instructors.
Throughout the course, students will learn how to prepare clay, center and throw basic forms, trim and refine pieces, add simple attachments like handles or knobs, and finish their work with beginner-friendly glazing techniques.
Perfect for those new to ceramics, this course provides a structured, supportive, and engaging introduction to the full process of creating pottery from start to finish.

6 Week Continuing Wheel
The Continuing Wheel Course is designed for students who have already learned the basics and are ready to build on their foundational wheel-throwing skills.
Students will refine their throwing technique, gain confidence with more complex forms, and work toward greater consistency and control. Topics may include advanced trimming, attachments, making sets, and new surface or glazing approaches.
This class offers structured support and plenty of hands-on practice as you continue developing your personal style and expanding your pottery skills

6 Week Underglaze
This Underglaze Course introduces students to both foundational and advanced underglaze techniques, ideal for those comfortable on the wheel but new to surface design.
Weeks 1–3: Foundations Learn essential tools and materials, core color theory, mixing and test charts, and the role of saturation. You’ll work with reference photos, use Procreate to plan designs, practice image transfer and block coloring, and develop clean line work.
Weeks 4–6: Advanced Techniques Dive deeper into color layering, blending, and wax-resist backgrounds. Create an underglaze portrait, explore Mishima and Sgraffito, burn custom silkscreens for your own transfers, and experiment with different finishes including raw underglaze, matte clear, and high-shine clear glaze.
Ages 18+ — $325 + Cost of Clay
open studio
Open Studio is a complementary drop-in time for all currently enrolled course students to practice independently, explore new ideas, or catch up from missed classes.
It’s held on Fridays from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, giving you plenty of time to get creative at your own pace.
Open Studio policies and expectations are outlined in the Student Agreement found here.
Open Studio hours do not apply to Kid’s Course students.

We do not offer make-up sessions for missed classes. However, students enrolled in our multi-week courses receive complimentary access to Open Studio on Fridays from 10:00am – 8:00pm, which can be used to catch up on any work missed during class time.
Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to stay on pace with the course curriculum to ensure student success in the course.

To request a cancellation and refund, you must email info@thevesselstudio.org.
Refunds requested more than one week prior to the first class are fully refundable. Refunds requested within one week of the first class are 50% refundable. There will be no refunds once the class begins. Should a class not fill sufficiently, we may cancel it one week prior to the first class session.

6 Week Kids Courses include all tools and materials and have no additional costs associated with them.
6 Week Teen and Adult Courses include access to all studio tools and glazes. Teen and Adult courses do not include clay.
Clay can be purchased on the first day of a course.

Outside materials can be used only with the approval of management (Jerod, Jordyn, or Hannah) to be certain that the materials are safe for use in our space and kilns.
To receive approval of outside materials, students MUST submit a request here. Student must prior to using outside clay and glaze in the studio.
Expect to provide a copy of a receipt and photos of materials upon submission.
